U.S. President Donald Trump stated that America does not seek to harm China but rather wants to help it. He made the remark in a post on his social network, TruthSocial.
“President Xi just had a bad moment. He doesn’t want Depression for his country, and neither do I. The U.S.A. wants to help China, not hurt it,” Trump wrote.
The statement came as Washington plans to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods starting in November. In addition, the U.S. intends to tighten control over the export of critical software to China.
According to Trump, the new tariffs were introduced in response to Beijing‘s decision to restrict the export of rare earth metals used by foreign defense companies.
China’s Ministry of Commerce called the U.S. measures an example of “double standards,” saying Washington is abusing export controls as a tool of political pressure and adopting discriminatory decisions against China.
